Depending on the cutting material, tri-cone drills can be divided into TCI drills and steel-tooth drills.
Another name for steel tooth tri-cone drill is milled tooth tri-cone drill because its teeth are produced by a milling machine and the cone surface is made of tungsten carbide hardfacing. Steel tooth tri-cone bit has longer teeth than TCI tri-cone bit, so it can drill soft formations at high ROP.
In oil drilling projects, the ROP of shallow drilling can reach 30 meters per hour.
